The beginning of a New Action Research

Originally my action research plan was going to be based on the low test scores for third grade students and how there is such a large gap between second and third grade accountability. However, just recently we had a leaders meeting in which our district had monies that needed to be spent. During our group discussion we discussed ideas on how to use the monies that had been divided up amongst the campuses. The leaders came with the conclusion we needed more technology in our classrooms. This mainly coming from the upper grades who needed to research as part of their curriculum. We currently have three computer labs, yet they are utilized all day with intervention groups and programs we have bought. After our meeting my principal turned to me and asked me to learn this project. My current proposed action research is can we implement more technology into our classrooms and how do we identify a system that will work so all students have access to the resources as needed. The significance behind my plan would benefit both teachers and students. By purchasing more technology students are able to research using the internet and have access to computers which also allow them to become familiar with the use of a computer and not a tablet. Teachers will now be able to utilize the idea if students having to type and print their papers directly from our copy machines. I’m looking forward to heading the project of purchasing the new technology working with others and giving the students the use of it in their classrooms.

Having taught 3rd grade and currently teaching 2nd grade, I was very intrigued by your first action reserach idea...I am a little disappointed that you won't be completing this topic. However, I am interested in your technology integration project. One of the topics I presented to my site supervisor dealt with ipads. Unfortunately, it was denied because of lack of resources and/or funding to purchase additional resources. We are an elementary campus of 900 students and we do not have a computer lab. Each classroom as 3 netbooks, there are 50 netbooks for the campus, and 50 ipads for the campus. Our 4th and 5th graders typically have the computer/ipad carts checked out so our younger kids rarely have an opporutnity to utilize them.

I am interested in the results of your action research project on integrating more technology in the classrooms. My campus also has a need for more technology. I think we are "behind the times" when it comes to preparing our students for this technological world we live in. I am excited to see how your project goes and look forward to hearing more.
